Q&A with Kerry Tolton, Development and Stewardship Director at Centre Foundation about why the Fund for Centre County Matters.
Q: Why did Centre Foundation open the Community Impact Fund, and what exactly is it?
A: The Community Impact Fund was created to give Centre Foundation the ability to respond to community needs in a flexible and lasting way. It’s what we call a permanently endowed fund, which means the principal is invested and grows over time, while the earnings are used every year to support local nonprofits. What makes it unique is that it’s not tied to one single cause or program. Instead, it allows us to direct resources wherever they’re needed most—today and in the future.
Centre County is a unique place to live and a nurturing community, but it won’t continue that way automatically. We all have a role to play in sustaining it by giving, supporting, and staying personally involved.
